New Houston Coach Dana Holgorsen Waving Goodbye to West Virginia Mansion

Houston football coach Dana Holgorsen has listed his contemporary mansion in Morgantown, WV, for $2.95 million.

After eight seasons as the head football coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers, Holgorsen was enticed to leave the Mountain State for a huge payday in Houston.

His West Virginia home is suited for a man with a fat football coaching contract and an eye for style. The home feels like a large, sophisticated version of a man cave. It’s rugged in all the right places and refined where it matters most.

The five-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom home was built in 2013 and features clean and airy interiors. Large windows bathe the home in sunlight, even on the most frigid of West Virginia winter mornings.

The main home and a detached guest suite sit on 3.5 acres.

We’ll acknowledge the elephant in the room. West Virginia isn’t exactlyknown for luxury real estate, and Holgorsen’s home ranks among the 10 most expensive single-family homes currently available in the state. It’s also the second-priciest place in all of Morgantown, exceeded only by this $5.3 million lakefront home.

According to reports from ESPN, Holgorsen was engaged in negotiations with the University of West Virginia over his contract when Houston stepped in and offered the coach nearly $4 million annually. Making the decision to leave even easier is Holgorsen’s affinity for the city developed during his time as the University of Houston’s offensive coordinator in 2008 and 2009.

“When I left here 10 years ago, I left here with a frown,” Holgorsen said of Houston. “Because, one, I was going to Oklahoma, but two, I love this city and this university so much. Obviously, things worked out OK, but I always came back. I came back two, three, four, five times a year and enjoyed what this wonderful city has to offer.”

With West Virginia squarely in his rear view, Holgorsen is ready to make a deal. Perhaps new Mountaineers coach Neal Brown is looking for a place.
